Wedding Season Part II: Plans for Your Pooch While on Your Honeymoon

If you’re getting ready for a wedding, you’re probably up to your neck in planning and organizing.  And, you may  be worrying about details you might overlook. One detail that you won’t want to leave to the last minute is what to do with your dog while you are out of town, either for your wedding or  your honeymoon. Planning ahead for your canine family member will be one less thing for you to worry about.

The time just before and after a wedding is wonderful, but it can be stressful for you too. Your dog will pick up on the anxiety that goes along with anticipating your happy day. Dogs react to the emotions of their owners, so this is likely going to be a time when your dog is a little more tense than usual too. This plays a very important role in the decision you make about arrangements for your dog.

In our last post, we talked about including your dog in your wedding. If it is an out of town wedding, then think about where you will be staying and if your dog can be with you. If you’re going to be staying with family or friends, you will, of course, have to consider if they are open to having a dog in their home. If you’re staying in a hotel, make sure it is a dog-friendly hotel.

Another possibility is to have your dog stay with family or friends back home, but chances are, anyone you’d trust with your dog is probably coming to your wedding. If you’re having a small wedding, however, this may be an option. Because your dog may more edgy than usual, his or her behavior may be a little different. This is especially important if your dog’s caretaker has other dogs.

If you decide to board your dog, Bed and Biscuit Austin will, of course, welcome him or her with open arms. One of the specialties of our kennel is in understanding the behavior of dogs. We can take into consideration that your dog may be more sensitive during the time around your wedding or honeymoon. We know that we may have to take extra steps to make your dog comfortable, and we are glad to do it.

If you’re going on your honeymoon or having an out of town wedding, your dog may be staying with us a little longer than usual. Bed and Biscuit Austin offers extra playtime and “cuddle time” sessions, which may comfort your dog during the extended period away from home. Also, we will be especially careful in selecting playmates for your dog, even if he or she has been at ease in a social setting before.

Finally, we welcome you to call as often as you would like to check on your pet. We are always happy to give a detailed report on how your dog is doing. We are glad to report to you about his or her comfort level, social activity and general well-being. If you do decide to board your dog, let us know when you drop him or her off that he or she may be a bit more sensitive than usual. We will take good care of your pet, leaving you free to enjoy your happy event.
