Thanksgiving Dinner for Your Dog

Most dog owners will be quick to tell you our fur babies are part of the family. So naturally, we want to include them in the holiday festivities. Piling up a special plate of Thanksgiving dinner for your dog with all the fixin’s is certainly no exception. But before you dole out all those yummies, you should know some of those conventional Thanksgiving fixin’s are lethal to your pet!

Keep in mind that as adorable as those pleading eyes can be at the dinner table, please refrain from feeding your dog table scraps. Foods which might seem harmless and tasty for you, have the ability to be toxic to your canine friend. Not to mention, feeding table scraps teaches bad habits.

There is, however, a Thanksgiving dinner you can prepare especially for your dog, which is safe, healthy and incredibly easy! No need to be an expert or use fancy ingredients. So hold the gravy, stuffing and green bean casserole! Grab yourself pen and paper instead because we’re about to rock your dog’s world with the best Thanksgiving doggie dinners we found!

Scrumptious Golden Turkey and Apple Meatloaf

Recipe adapted from Cooking For Dogs

Baking time: 1 hr.

½ cup grated, peeled and cored apple *

½ cup frozen peas

½ cup grated celery

½ cup grated and peeled sweet potato *

½ cup rolled oats

½ cup low sodium chicken stock

4 ¼ cups fresh ground turkey

3 slices of cored peeled apple *

Disposable gloves

* Please note apples and sweet potatoes MUST be peeled, as the peels contain toxins which are potentially deadly to your dog.

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉

  2. Combine turkey, rolled oats, peas, sweet potato, celery and grated apple in a large mixing bowl. Finally, add chicken stock. Put on your disposable gloves and mix by hand until well blended.

  3. Pour blended mixture into your greased loaf pan, gently forming a loaf shape with your hands. Make a small dip in the center with large spoon or spatula. Then, press your 3 slices of cored apple across the top for a tasty garnish.

  4. Remove your disposable gloves and place loaf pan in the oven for about 1 hour – or when a toothpick placed into the center comes out clean. Allow your Scrumptious Golden Turkey and Apple Meatloaf to cool and slice into portion controlled servings. You can then use Press ‘n Seal® to wrap unused slices, bag up in Ziplock® bags and freeze for a later date!
